Photo Album

At the head of these graves rests General George C. Patton.

Although he was not killed in battle (he died shortly after the war ended) the General is buried here in Luxembourg. It was his wish  to rest with his men.

I hope that you have enjoyed my photo album  Please take time to reflect this Memorial Day, or any day , and thank those who go forward to defend all of us.

They died fighting evil and injustice. I hope that God has told them they are heros. Today peace prevails in the countries and towns where they journeyed from this world.

Memorial Day Origins

In 1868, General John A. Logan, the commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic , named May 30th as a special day to honor the graves of Union soldiers. The Grand Army of the Republic was an organization that consisted of  Union veterans from  the Civil War. Why  May 30th? It's origins stem from Cassandra Oliver Moniker,a Virginian.  He may have selected this date because it was "The Day of Ashes"  Since he was a French descendant this day held meaning to him.  It was on this day that Napoleon's remains were returned to France from St. Helena.
